Banding Process

  • The birds are caught in mist nets, which are very lightweight and hard to see... for birds and humans.

  • They are then placed in small cloth bags. The seams of the bags are placed on the outside to avoid snagging the bird's feet or beak.

  • After all the nets have been checked, the birds are carried back to the banding station and placed on the appropriate hooks. There is a hook for each net. The number of the hook and that of the net must match, as the net number is part of the data recorded.
